The workshop held on the morning of September 23 brought together quality agri-food producers and tour operators with foreign buyers. The meeting afforded the opportunity to present products such as oil, wine and vegetables. The initiative enabled participants to create a number of interesting business contacts for the future. In the afternoon, a visit was arranged to see the traditional Perrone wood oven, where participants were able to watch the typical PGI Matera bread being made. The visit continued to take in the Sassi of Matera, the Rock Churches of Saint Lucia alle Malve, Santa Maria dell'Idris and the vast complex of the Convicinio of St. Anthony. There was also a short break for tasting Matera’s typical products at a local restaurant in the old town and a guided tour of the historic city centre. Take a look at the gallery!
On the morning of Saturday 24 September, local agri-food producers and tourism operators, foreign buyers and members of the trade press left for Grottaglie, a town in the Ionian province located just a few kilometers from Taranto. The tour included an excursion to the characteristic Ceramics district of Grottaglie and a visit to the “Fasano Franco” workshop to admire the products of this flourishing craft-industry that is now known and appreciated throughout the world. On the afternoon of Saturday, September 24 the group visited the Antica Masseria Caroli that produces various types of extra virgin olive oil, each one different from the others thanks to a careful selection of the olive varieties and the blend of olives for processing. The Masseria also produces a fine selection of wines, artisan slow-dried bronze-die pasta, pickles, “cotto d'uva” (cooked must) and various sauces. There followed a guided tour of the charming and quaint old town of Martina Franca, a uniquely beautiful centre with its maze of narrow alleys, whitewashed houses and picturesque streets and the especially wonderful Lama and where you can admire beautiful Baroque art.
