Pane di Altamura

Grains, bread, pasta, cakes and biscuits

The Pane di Altamura (Altamura Bread) is produced using the traditional method of sour dough leavening, sea salt and water. It has around a 3 mm thick crust, is straw-yellow in colour and highly aromatic. Locally it is called 'u sckuanète', and if made in the shape of a priest's hat, 'cappidd d'prevte'. It is sold in a micro-perforated bag and labelled with the producer's name, the product name and logo, ingredients and expiry date.
